Top of cyber-attacks in 2019

Cyber-attacks caused hundreds of billions of dollars in damages in 2019. According to Bitdefender specialists, the number of cyber threats broke a new historical record – almost a billion units, in the top of the rankings being Ransomware.

Compared to 2018, the number of Ransomware threats increased by 75%. Ransomware developers constantly comply with attack techniques and change their strategies, but due to the collaboration between authorities and the computer security industry, they have been hit hard. Bitdefender specialists have developed a decoder that allows victims to receive access to encrypted data without paying a reward to attackers.

On the second place was spam – which reaches users’ inboxes, registering a 50% increase by the end of 2019.

A global study by specialists from Bitdefender shows that approx. 6 out of 10 companies have suffered a security breach in the last 3 years. The share of companies that have experienced incidents in the first six months of 2019 is a quarter, compared to 32% in 2018.

The consequences of an unspecified breach may be: interruption of business activity (43%), reputational costs (38%) and decreased sales (37%), but the biggest problem remains the loss of customer confidence
